Week 1 Matchup - Hitmen LawDawgs

Week 1 in the MTFL will feature only one matchup for us to discuss. The Lebanon Hitmen and the Metro LawDawgs open up the 2012 MTFL season on Saturday, February 25. These two teams have traditionally been known for their physical style of play. As each new season begins, no one knows what each team is going to have or how good each team will be; however, one thing is certain when the these two teams meet every year. It will be a hard fought, physical football game no matter what the outcome is and every player who plays in this rivalry will spend almost an entire week recovering as they prepare for their next opponent.

These two longest tenured teams in the league are long time rivals and will be meeting for the 15th time since 2006. The Hitmen are 11-3 against the LawDawgs in their previous 14 contests. The Hitmen and LawDawgs last played in the first round of the MTFL playoffs on April 30, 2011 with the Hitmen winning 18-0. One of the more memorable games in MTFL history happened between these two teams on February 4, 2006. The Hitmen and LawDawgs opened up the 2006 season with four quarters of scoreless, smash mouth football in the mud with freezing temperatures at Hunter's Lane High School. The contest went into 3 overtimes and was the longest game ever played in MTFL history. One team eventually had to win in a game that seemed like it would never end. Hitmen running back Devin Adams scored the only points of the game on a TD run inside of the LawDawgs 10 yard line to finally end the contest.
